Alabama High School Football Fans Taunt Rivals with Homophobic Sign on National TV

This Labor Day weekend, while an Alabama high school football team defeated its rival on national television, some of the team's fans fumbled big time in the stands.
During an ESPN broadcast, fans from Spanish Fort High School decided to taunt their purple-clad opponents from Daphne with a homophobic sign reading: “Purple? Man, that’s GAY.”
Another sign mocked Daphne for being a “girl’s name.” On top of reinforcing gender stereotypes and hampering self-expression, this immature stunt sends further messages of exclusion to Alabama’s LGBT youth.
