May 30, 2012 by Maureen McCarty, HRC Senior Digital Strategist
Singer-guitarist of the punk rock band Against Me! gave her debut live performance on Friday after coming out as the first transgender rock star, according to Rolling Stone.
Laura Jane Grace told Rolling Stone she was unsure of how fans would receive her.
"I was worried that some people expected me to come out looking like Little Bo Peep or something," she said.
Despite her concerns, the 31-year-old rocker received an outpouring of support from fans not just during the 40-minute set in San Diego, but immediately following her interview with the magazine, as well.
Grace told Rolling Stone she looks forward to opening a dialogue with fans about her transition.
