After Months of Organizing in the Streets of Queens, Addabbo is a Yes!

The following post is from NYC New York City Field Lead Stephen Anderson:
On Monday, while collecting postcards and 'stop & dials' on Rockaway Boulevard in Ozone Park, Queens; three Democratic senators (Huntley, Kruger, and Addabbo) spoke publicly in support of marriage equality, joining 29/30 supporters of the Democratic caucus, and Governor Cuomo! Senator Addabbo stated that of the 6015 people in his district that had written or called to express their views on marriage equality, 4839 were in support of full marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples. Our hard work contributed to an astounding 80% constituent contact rate in support!
Upon hearing the amazing news, we were on cloud nine and had an impromptu celebration on the street corner! Soon afterwards, we had supportive constituents call Senator's Addabbo's offices to thank him for his public support. It was an emotional and joyful moment for everyone involved. With countless volunteers pounding the pavement for months in Kew Gardens, Middle Village, Glendale, Maspeth, Ridgewood, Howard Beach, Ozone Park, and Forest Hills, it was very powerful to witness the impact that we made in this area first-hand.
As Governor Andrew Cuomo expressed during his press conference yesterday, although we are approaching the finish line, our work isn't done yet. If you're a New Yorker for Marriage Equality, and want to get involved in New York City, please email Stephen at Stephen.Anderson@HRC.org.
