The American Foundation for Equal Rights is bringing together the bipartisan legal prowess of Ted Olson and David Boies to join the federal constitutional challenge to Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage.
 
HRC President Chad Griffin was on-hand at today’s press conference to lend his support of the Bostic v. Rainey case.
 
“I’m proud to stand here today as a co-founder and board member of AFER to double down on the work that we began four years ago,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “And I’m grateful that longtime HRC members Mary & Carol will be joining Tim & Tony as plaintiffs in this case.”
 
Carol Schall and Mary Townley have been a couple for nearly 30 years and have a 15 year old daughter together. The two were married in 2008 in California and now seek to have their marriage recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Timothy Bostic and Tony London have been together for nearly 25 years. In July 2013, Bostic and London applied for a marriage license from the Norfolk Circuit Court Clerk, but were denied.
 
These committed couples — and the Americans in 36 other states without marriage—shouldn’t have to wait one more day for the equality they’re promised by this nation’s founding documents.
