Act Now: Tell TN Tea Party Homophobia is Never Acceptable
November 30, 2011 by Dan Rafter, Associate Director of Communications
In the wake of the news that Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) was retiring from Congress at the end of his current term, many reflected on the tremendous contributions Frank made to advancing equality. The Tennessee Tea Party, however, chose to celebrate Frank’s retirement in an ugly way. Earlier this week, the group tweeted out “Good riddance you perverted sodomite POS!!”
Tweet back at the Tennessee Tea Party, and tell them their hateful rhetoric is unacceptable – regardless of one’s political beliefs.
The group’s president, Tami Kilmarx, later offered a half-hearted apology. According to TPM, Kilmarx said: “While privately and inwardly I may agree with the commentary, it is completely irresponsible for any one of us to write these kinds of commentaries.”
Act now to tell the Tennessee Tea Party their rhetoric was reprehensible.
