Act Now: Tell Speaker Boehner to Stop Defending DOMA
June 1, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Yesterday, another federal appeals court found the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) to be unconstitutional. Unfortunately, House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor continue to waste millions of taxpayer dollars defending the discriminatory law.
Over 100,000 HRC supporters have already sent letters to Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor, telling them to stop wasting money on a law that codifies discrimination. Take action now and tell House GOP leaders to stop defending discrimination.
Loving, same-sex couples who are legally married are still denied over 1,100 rights, benefits, and protections because of DOMA. They include Social Security survivor benefits, federal employee health benefits for spouses, protections against spouses losing their homes in cases of severe medical emergencies, the right to sponsor a foreign-born partner for immigration, the guarantee of family and medical leave and the ability to file joint tax returns, among many others.
Don’t stand for this – take action now and let Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor know they’re on the wrong side of history.
