Act Now: Support Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin
August 15, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Tammy Baldwin has an opponent in her race to represent Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate: former George W. Bush cabinet secretary and Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson.
Tammy Baldwin is a trailblazer – she was the first open lesbian in the U.S. House of Representatives and, should she win this November, would be the first openly gay U.S. Senator. She is the founder and co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, and she’s a leader on issues of LGBT equality – particularly ending workplace discrimination via the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Support Tammy now.
Tommy Thompson presents a stark contrast to Tammy – he was a top Bush administration official, and has never supported a pro-equality bill. In fact, he even once said that he thought employers should have the right to fire an employee based on their sexual orientation or gender identity – before claiming the next day that he misheard the question. And when Wisconsin became the first state in the country to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in 1982, legislator Tommy Thompson voted no.
With Paul Ryan on the ticket, Wisconsin once again is poised to be a key state in this election – get involved now and support Tammy Baldwin in her fight for the Senate.
