Act Now: Say No to Tennessee’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill
April 30, 2012 by Dan Rafter, Online Campaigns Manager
Tennessee’s legislators are waging a war on the Volunteer State’s LGBT youth. There is a trio of hostile bills currently working their way through the legislature, the most pressing of which is the “Don’t Say Gay” legislation.
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has urged the state’s lawmakers to focus on more pressing matters, but that didn’t stop the House Education Committee from recently advancing the anti-LGBT bill.
Act now and tell Governor Bill Haslam and House Speaker Beth Harwell to take a stand against this dangerous legislation.
The other two bills include the “License to Bully” act, which would allow students to harass their classmates if it was a reflection of their ‘religious, philosophical, or political views;’ and HB 0432, a bill targeting gay-straight alliances by requiring parents to give permission before their children join clubs at school.
