Across Western New York, volunteers make the case for marriage equality
May 27, 2011
We’ve never been closer to passing the marriage bill in New York and supporters of marriage equality have been working around the clock in Rochester. Last week, HRC volunteers working with Marriage Equality New York, Equality Rochester and Empire State Pride Agenda generated almost 1,000 calls to State Senate office from the Rochester Lilac Festival.
Coalition advocates for marriage equality also met with Rochester State Senator Joe Robach face to face in his district office and urged him to vote for the marriage equality bill. In the same week, Andy Rau, a local republican supporter, and Todd Plank, from Equality Rochester, delivered hundreds of handwritten letter and postcards to State Senator Alesi’s local office in Fairport.
Our efforts are continuing this weekend, so join us at the Rochester Public Market this weekend to help identify more supporters of marriage equality. We’ll be at the Public Market on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-2pm. For more information contact Karl.Bach@hrc.org.
