Accounting Firm’s New Practice Aims to Help LGBT Families

It can be difficult for LGBT families to navigate the greater challenges we face in tax laws and estate planning. And it isn’t always easy to find an expert to help guide us along the way.

At least one company has noticed - and is doing something about it.

Accounting firm Marcum LLP announced this week that it created a “National LGBT & Non-Traditional Family Practice Group” to cater to the unique financial needs of LGBT families.

The company website touts its professionals who have “more than 20 years of experience in dealing with the complex tax and financial rules faced by LGBT couples and families, state-by-state and around the country,” according to Marcum’s website.

These challenges will remain until the discriminatory federal Defense of Marriage Act is repealed and marriage equality is enacted in all 50 states.
