A New Day in the Old Dominion of Virginia

It was an honor to be in historic Richmond, where, under rainy skies, HRC-endorsees were sworn into office.

Governor Terry McAuliffe, Ralph Northam and Mark Herring were sworn in as governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general.

In his inaugural address, Governor McAuliffe stated that no one should face discrimination because of "who they love."

Immediately after the outdoor ceremony and parade  (with Equality Virginia marching proudly as an invited group), Governor McAuliffe signed his first Executive Order; Banning discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in state employment.  Openly gay state Senator Adam Ebbin was on-hand to witness history.

After Senator Ebbin and I met briefly with Attorney General Mark Herring, I had a chance to thank Governor McAuliffe for the historic Executive Order while attending his open house at the Executive Mansion.

Governor McAuliffe's first order of business was to protect LGBT state employees from discrimination.
