100 House Parties for Marriage Held in Oregon, HRC Matches $250K
November 4, 2013 by Trevor Chandler, Associate Regional Field Director
This past weekend Oregon United for Marriage held 100 house parties across the state to raise funds and awareness for the campaign to repeal the state’s DOMA and make marriage equality the law of the land.
To help spur additional donations over the weekend, HRC pledged to match every donation up to $250,000, as did the ACLU, which effectively tripled the donation of every person who went to a house party. The weekend was wildly successful and has set up the campaign to hold similar events in the future.
Currently, Oregon United for Marriage is working to collect enough signatures to put the Right to Marry and Religious Protection Amendment on the ballot for November 2014. This would make Oregon the first state in American history to repeal a state Defense of Marriage Act.
HRC is a founding member of Oregon United for Marriage. Trevor Chandler is a Senior Regional Field Organizer with HRC, he is on the ground working to build the campaign’s coalition with the team at OUM to secure marriage equality for all Oregonians.
