This week, Ellen DeGeneres launched her new clothing brand with Gap, GapKids x ED. The brand aims at empowering girls everywhere and breaking down gender stereotypes.

“Introducing GapKids x ED, a collaboration dedicated to supporting girls just as they are, whether they skateboard or dance, wear dresses or jeans, build forts or paint rainbows, or everything in between,” Gap’s website explained. “We encourage girls everywhere to take pride in what makes them unique."

DeGeneres, a vocal advocate and figure in the LGBT community, has continually broken down barriers, frequently sharing the lasting impact of coming out and publicly supporting and encouraging others to live openly and honestly.

Most recently, DeGeneres gave an inspiring speech at the Teen Choice Awards, urging youth to embrace their individuality.

Gap received a 100 on HRC Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, which is a national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to LGBT employees. Gap has been a long time supporter of LGBT rights, standing up against discriminatory anti-LGBT laws across the country.

While the deck is stacked against LGBTQ youth in America, campaigns like these and role models like DeGeneres inspire acceptance and understanding for LGBTQ youth.
