Post submitted by Maureen McCarty, former HRC Deputy Director of Marketing

In a video released earlier this week, screenwriter and Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black offered his endorsement for State Rep. Carl Sciortino for the U.S. House in Massachusetts’ 5th District.
Sciortino is a leader in the fight for LGBT equality. During the first legislative battles to roll back marriage equality in Massachusetts—the first state to recognize such unions legally—Carl Sciortino’s election to and leadership in the legislature were key reasons why marriage equality remains the law of the land in the Bay State.
Sciortino’s hard work and tenacity are also key reasons the 2012 Massachusetts’ bill adding gender identity and expression to the state’s employment, housing and hate crimes laws finally became law.
HRC announced its own endorsement of Sciortino in July.

Paid for by the Human Rights Campaign PAC and authorized by the Carl Sciortino Committee.
