With tax day around the corner, Americans across the country are scrambling to file their returns, but for the LGBT community this could mean paying hundreds, even thousands of dollars more in taxes.
Every April, LGBT families must navigate discriminatory tax laws, costing families significantly more in taxes, while they are denied access to over 1,100 benefits under the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act.
As we await the Supreme Court’s opinion on the constitutionality on DOMA, we’re releasing a “Tax Fact” each day until April 15 to illuminate the unfair tax burden on the LGBT community.
