Submitted by Americans for Workplace Opportunity Organizer Logan Clark
In Chicago, people know how important the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is for millions of Americans who aren't fortunate enough to live in a state with employment protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. And last night they showed it.
Led by organizers from the Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign, two rooms full of volunteers cranked out transfer calls like machines. The energy was absolutely pumping. The phone bank tied their previous record for the most volunteers at 12, and made a record 43 transfer calls split between the districts of Congressmen Dan Lipinski and Adam Kinzinger.
We would like to thank a single group in particular for their continued work, support and attitude at the Chicago phone banks. That is the HRC Fund Canvassers, who work hard all day to raise money for LGBTQ rights, clock out, and then come churn out transfer calls with the other volunteers in their free time. These folks are some of the most passionate, amped up, tireless individuals that we have ever had the pleasure of working with. And they know how to get people to commit to transfer to their congressman's office. They hit the streets fighting for ENDA before most of us even have had our first cup of coffee, and they don't call it quits until after we've headed to bed. A big thank you to all of them!
