Prominent food columnist and cookbook author David Hagedorn recently sat down with the New York Times to discuss his September marriage to longtime partner and friend, Michael Widomski.

The couple got engaged on December 7 after news broke that the Supreme Court would take up Windsor v. the United States, the case challenging section 3 of the discriminatory Defense of Marriage. 

On September 22 on roof of Fiola restaurant in Washington, D.C, the couple tied the knot before Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. For Ginsburg, it was the second ceremony she performed for a same-sex couple in the weeks following the court’s decision. 

The newlywed isn’t backing down from his fight for equality for loving, committed same-sex couples nationwide. This October 30, Hagedorn and HRC will host the second annual Chefs for Equality in Washington, D.C. to help raise funds and awareness about the fight for marriage equality.
