On July 14th, the Massachusetts Joint Committee of the Judiciary heard public comment on H 1728/S 1687, An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes. The bill would add Massachusetts to 13 other states, Washington D.C., and 108 counties and cities

More great LGBT news from mid-America. Memphis-based FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) -- the world's largest express transportation provider which reaches even the most remote corners of the country -- now prohibits discrimination against transgender employees. Earlier this year, NorthStar Asset Management, an investment fund manager, proposed a shareholder resolution to add gender identity to FedEx's corporate non-discrimination policies.

We learned today of a decision by the U.S. Department of Justice not to appeal an earlier court decision in Schroer v. Billington, in which a federal district court concluded that Library of Congress officials violated federal sex discrimination law when they withdrew a job offer from Diane Schroer - a transgender woman - because she was transitioning.
