Betty DeGeneres never imagined herself being an activist. “Who would have dreamed it,” she said today while chatting with HRC staff at our DC headquarters. In another world, she’d probably be “playing a lot more golf.” But activist she is, and in the 15 years since her daughter Ellen’s high-profile coming out, she’s proven herself a tremendous ally to the LGBT community.

Earlier this week, Heritage of Pride named Cyndi Lauper one of the grand marshals for New York’s 43rd annual LGBT Pride March. The singer-songwriter has been a longtime friend of HRC and an incredible advocate for the LGBT community. Her True Colors Fund actively works to end LGBT youth homelessness, and she's taken her advocacy on the road with the popular True Colors Tour.
