Dear Mr. President and First Lady Obama, I have been a mom for over a quarter of a century, but I remember each of my children’s births with such joy. I remember my son’s birth. We had picked a boy’s name and a girl’s name, deciding to wait and see. My labor was easy. As the baby was born, the doctor exclaimed that he was a boy! He was doing so well that we brought him home to meet his big sister that very morning.

Continue Reading ►Georgia Senate Unanimously Passes Anti-Bullying Measure

Late last night, the Georgia State Senate unanimously passed legislation which substantially extends anti-bullying provisions in schools. House Bill 927, which contained the provisions, seemed dead in the water earlier this year until Representative Mike Jacobs – a Republican from Atlanta – was able to amend Senate Bill 250 to include the language. Passage is a huge victory for Georgia Equality!

Yesterday, Louisiana LGBT advocates successfully defeated a bill which would have made adoption more challenging for same-sex couples. In response to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that a legally adopted child’s two fathers must be listed on the birth certificate, Louisiana State Senator B.L. Shaw proposed a bill to attempt to circumvent the decision.
