Evening Postscript from NH
June 3, 2009
After a celebration dinner with NH Freedom to Marry's Mo Baxley and NH Democratic State Party Chair Ray Buckley and others it's back in the car for a two hour drive to Portland. I will be meeting early in the morning with Equality Maine's Betsy Smith and others who will be forming a winning campaign to defend marriage equality at the ballot box in Maine this November. We helped win marriage in New Hampshire and we'll help defend it in Maine.

This news just in from HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse on the gound in New Hampshire... After reaching a compromise on religious liberty language over the weekend, the marriage equality bill passed both houses of the state legislature today and now goes to Governor John Lynch for his signature.

Went to a cafe for quick sandwich. Sat next to someone wearing a Freedom To Marry sticker. I struck up a conversation and it turns out he worked in the Reagan Administration. He said, "I was a staunch Republican, but when I moved to NH, I registered as an Independent. On marriage and other issues, the Republican Party left me. Good luck today."

The Senate set to vote in one hour on the marriage bill and then it goes over to the House. Senator Martha Fuller Clark addressing the 300 rally attendeessaid, "today I call on all my Senate and House colleagues to vote in favor of equality, HB 73. It's time for liberty and freedom."
