VIDEO: HRC raises Maine state flag over headquarters

Today Maine Governor John Baldacci signed a marriage equality bill passed by the state legislature, making Maine the fifth state in the U.S. to allow same-sex couples to legally marry under state law. A few staffers went up to roof again to raise the Maine state flag over the Human Rights Campaign headquarters in Washington, DC.

The Maine State House of Representatives voted 89 to 58 this afternoon in favor of legislation that would permit same-sex couples to marry under state law. The State Senate passed the measure last week.
