For the past several months, the Anchorage Assembly has been considering an anti-discrimination ordinance that would prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and credit based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Regional Field Director Tony Wagner and Regional Field Organizer Terry McGuire have been coordinating with Equality Works, the ACLU of Alaska and other allies to support this much-needed action.

The first national gathering of LGBT volunteers, community members, and supporters since the 2008 elections and the passage of Proposition 8, this event provides a powerful opportunity to harness the energy—both excitement and anger—that this historic year has sparked.

Earlier this year, Delaware’s legislature passed a law prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, housing, and public accommodations. The new law does not cover discrimination based on gender identity or expression, but, when national field director Marty Rouse recently traveled to Dover for a meeting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocates with Gov. Jack Markell, it was clear that the Governor is a strong supporter of equality for all.
