Beginning Monday, the hardcore anti-gay groups—Family Research Council, National Organization for Marriage, the American Family Association— and former Republican Senator Rick Santorum--are swooping into Iowa next week for a bus tour.

This weekend I headed to Colorado (along with other HRC staff) to help pro-equality candidates get elected in the U.S. House and Senate. Only minutes after I landed in Denver, one thing became crystal clear -- Ken Buck cannot become the next senator from Colorado. As many HRC members are aware, Ken Buck compared gays and lesbians to alcoholics while debating Senator Michael Bennet on Sunday. Buck confidently explained that he believed being gay is a choice. You and I know better.

I love campaign season. The period leading up to elections can be terribly stressful for many of us, but it can also be tremendously rewarding. I am in western New York right now, where we are working hard every day to make marriage equality a reality here in the Empire State. The results of the upcoming elections will play a huge part in making all this possible, and the volunteers that have given their time this fall know how important it is to let everyone know that fact.
