Yesterday, HRC Seattle members met at the Equal Rights Washington office to phone voters reminding them to vote to APPROVE Referendum 71. The biggest challenge we faced on the phones wasn't support, it was the confusion surrounding the referendum.

I was having a late, Labor Day dinner with a new acquaintance, who shared with me his interest in military service. “Tim” was particularly interested in joining the Navy. “’Peds’ (pediatricians) are actually among the most in-demand medical specialists for military service,” Tim offered. “Think about it: an increase in troop force also means an increase in need for family care, and yet peds tend not to be attracted to military service.”

A judge in Washington State ruled yesterday against the proponents of domestic partnerships saying that the methods used for checking signatures were valid. Washington Families Standing Together (WFST) had argued that two types of signatures accepted by the Secretary of State should be tossed out -- those that were on a petition not signed by the signature gatherer and signatures of voters who had not been registered at the time they signed.
