HRC is calling on the NHL to immediately conduct a more thorough investigation and take appropriate action following claims that Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds called New York Rangers winger and equality supporter Sean Avery a “f-cking f-ggot” during a preseason game Monday night.

HRC's Call it Out campaign is highlighting recent comments from Tea Party activisit Rich Swier. In response to a statistic that said 77 percent of bullied youth were targeted due to their real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity, Swier said bullying “is peer pressure and it is healthy.” Swier went on to compare being gay to behaviors like smoking, underage drinking and drug abuse.

A year ago, Hudson Taylor was a college wrestling champion who never missed an opportunity to talk about equality. You might remember our feature about him in HRC’s Equality magazine – he proudly wore an HRC sticker on his wrestling headgear to show his support for the LGBT community.

NOM’s leaders may not always come across as loud and horrendous as Fred Phelps (of “God hates fags” fame), but they are just as dogged–and more dangerous—in making sure LGBT people can’t get married. Watch the video.
