Each year on Nov. 20, communities come together to mark the passing of transgender individuals, or those perceived to be transgender individuals, who have been murdered because of hate. Communities organize Transgender Day of Remembrance events and activities including candlelit vigils, town hall style "teach-ins," and photography and poetry exhibits. These activities make anti-transgender violence visible to stakeholders like police, the media and elected officials.

Emmy Award-winning actor John Leguizamo supports marriage equality

Polling released today by the Public Religion Research Institute shows strong majorities of Americans favor rights and legal protections for Transgender people. 

Civil rights pioneer and NAACP Chairman Emeritus Julian Bond has joined HRC in a new video for the Americans for Marriage Equality campaign.

HRC is calling on its members to take action and join in calling on the NHL to revisit the incident between Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds and Rangers winger – and staunch marriage equality supporter - Sean Avery, in which Simmonds appears to have shouted “f*cking f*ggot” at Avery during an altercation.
