Senate Approves Final DoD Bill with Hate Crimes Attached

Late last night the U.S. Senate passed the Defense Department authorization bill on which the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act is attached as an amendment. The bill now goes to a Conference Committee to work out differences between the House and Senate versions of the legislation. As HRC Senior Policy Advocate David Stacy wrote earlier this week:

Greetings from the City of Brotherly Love! I've been in Philadelphia since Monday for the annual NCSL Legislative Summit. It's been an amazing week, and it's been great to speak with so many legislators about HRC's work. Last night there was a reception sponsored by HRC, Gill Action Fund, and the Gay and Lesbian Leadership Institute for LGBT state legislators and our allies.
