Sultan Shakir

Sultan Shakir is a native of Philadelphia and began his organizing experience in low-income neighborhoods working to organize neighbors to address community concerns, from public dumping to school improvement.

Shakir now works for the Human Rights Campaign as a regional field director working to organize HRC members and community allies to help elect fair-minded individuals to state and national government. Shakir joined HRC after leaving the firm Grassroots Solutions, where as a project manager and trainer he trained more than 5,000 candidates, campaign workers and citizen activists in 18 states. He also developed and helped implement field plans for congressional candidates around the country. Shakir has also helped train campaign staff for America Coming Together and Planned Parenthood of Minnesota and South Dakota and was a national trainer for an online voter system, the Voter Activation Network.

Shakir is currently a vice president of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central Maryland.
