Marty Rouse
National Field Director
As National Field Director, Marty Rouse is tasked with mobilizing the Human Rights Campaign's more than one million members and supporters to effect change at the federal, state and local level.
In 2010, HRC's Field Team worked in six states building unprecedented grassroots campaigns in support of repealing the discriminatory Don't Ask, Don't Tell law. Rouse's staff were in Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Virginia, and West Virginia, identifying and mobilizing veterans and others in order to win over support from key U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee members.
Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson's office credited HRC's efforts in helping to secure a "yes" vote from Senator Nelson. According to the staff of Senator Nelson, HRC's campaign was one of the best they'd ever seen.
Rouse led a team of 30 organizers in New York that led to marriage equality in the Empire State in 2011. He is now leading his team's efforts in the fight to secure marriage equality in Maine, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington states.
Before joining HRC in 2006, Rouse led MassEquality, the statewide group in Massachusetts that successfully defended marriage equality in the Bay State. Under Rouse's leadership, MassEquality became a national advocacy model that combined grassroots organizing with strategic electoral focus.
Rouse, a Maryland resident, is the proud parent of two sons, Sasha and David.
