Josh King

Josh King serves as a Senior Public Policy Advocate on the federal legislative team at the Human Rights Campaign.  His portfolio of issues includes hate crime prevention, health care, military, education, immigration, international and religious freedom issues. Josh has worked on the passage of legislation including the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Protection Act and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. He is the primary contact for the South and Southwest regions.

Prior to joining HRC in August 2008, Josh worked at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He has also worked as an Associate Director in the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee in Senator Harry Reid’s leadership office coordinating a portfolio of issues including LGBT, housing, education, energy and environmental issues. Josh worked at the American Institutes for Research on projects including the recruitment of underrepresented minorities in higher education with the Gates Foundation and HIV/AIDS technical assistance programs with historically black colleges. Prior to moving to Washington, DC, Josh spent nine years working with local YMCAs in Easley, South Carolina and Chattanooga, Tennessee in a variety of areas in community programming. 

Josh holds a B.S. in Education from Lee University.
