Post submitted by John V. Gomez, State Director, Americans for Workplace Opportunity
What an exciting day it was for HRC and the Arizona team from Americans for Workplace Opportunity. We delivered more than 7,500 postcards in support of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) to the Phoenix offices of Sen. John McCain and Sen. Jeff Flake.
We started the morning with a press conference that was well attended by local media as well as our super volunteers and coalition partners. We then headed to the senators’ offices and were greeted with respect and thanked for our efforts. In the coming week, the U.S. Senate will take up ENDA for the first time since 1996. The 7,500 postcards we delivered to Sens. McCain and Flake were collected from all over the Grand Canyon State by volunteers, coalition partners, and Americans for Workplace Opportunity field staff while attending community meetings, college and professional sporting games, local markets, church events, and neighborhood gatherings.
In every community we visited or event we attended, one message was clear.... in 2013 everyone should be able to earn a living and take care of their family free from workplace discrimination. We must and will pass ENDA in the 2013 U.S. Senate, because it's the right thing to do.
If you haven’t yet asked your senators to vote for ENDA, send them a message today.
