The radically anti-LGBT American Family Association is protesting the recent release of the Harvey Milk postage stamp by encouraging its members to either refuse to accept the stamps or refuse to accept mail that uses the postage.
“Honoring predator Harvey Milk on a U.S. postage stamp is disturbing to say the least,” said American Family Association President Tim Wildmon said in a statement. Wildmon goes on to accuse the civil rights leader of being a pedophile.
Harvey Milk dedicated his life to advocate for a better and more equitable society, not just for LGBT people, but for all who had been marginalized – whether it was because of their race or ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity, age or socioeconomic status. Milk envisioned an America where everyone received the same dignity, respect, rights, and protections.
The Postal Service’s move to feature Milk in a commemorative stamp pays great homage to the civil rights hero.
The Postal Service said in a statement that Milk’s achievements, "gave hope and confidence to the LGBT community in the United States and elsewhere at a time when the community was encountering widespread hostility and discrimination."
