Post submitted by Maureen McCarty, former HRC Deputy Director of Marketing

Today, the Alaska Senate Health and Social Services Committee heard testimony on SB 131, which, if passed, would expand statewide non-discrimination protections to include sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.

Senate Bill 131 would protect citizens from discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, financing or credit based upon sexual orientation and gender identity.

HRC State Legislative Director Sarah Warbelow submitted testimony in support of the rights and protections of LGBT Alaskans.

Read her testimony here and stay tuned to HRC Blog for more updates on the bill.
