Post submited by Dan Rafter, Former HRC Associate Director of Communications

A+E has suspended ‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson from filming for his reality show indefinitely, according to reports this evening.

It came to light earlier today that in a new interview with GQ magazine, Robertson lashed out against LGBT people. Robertson equated being gay with bestiality and promiscuity, and said gay people weren’t getting into Heaven.

Robertson also attacked African Americans in his remarks, saying they were happier under the Jim Crow laws of segregation. Earlier this evening, HRC partnered with the NAACP in sending a letter to A+E President Nancy Dubuc, calling on her to take action in response to Robertson’s remarks.

Given that Robertson deceptively couched his attacks on LGBT people in his faith, HRC also launched an action calling on members and supporters to send a note to the ‘Duck Dynasty’ cast member, asking him to live out the Golden Rule that calls us to treat others with the same dignity and respect we’d wish to receive.

In A+E’s statement, the network said: “His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”

You still can take action through HRC and send a note to Phil Robertson, asking him to treat others the same way he’d like to be treated. Click here to act
