LUND AdoptionThe year of 2012 ended on a high note for All Children – All Families (ACAF). Along with ringing in the New Year, we were able to celebrate a new agency earning status of a “Leader in Supporting & Serving LGBT Families.”

Lund Family Center of Burlington, Vermont completed the ten benchmarks of LGBT cultural competence and was awarded the ACAF Agency Seal of Recognition in December 2012. The ACAF initiative seeks to enhance LGBT cultural competency among child welfare professionals and educate LGBT people about opportunities to become foster or adoptive parents to waiting children.

Heather A. Simmons, Associate Director of Adoption at Lund Family Center, stated they “have been working with the LGBTQ community for many years and were excited to be connected with the All Children – All Families initiative to make this work known to all.” It is tremendously important for LGBT-friendly agencies to be sure they have institutionalized the values of LGBT inclusion and cultural competency at their agencies. All Children – All Families helps them do just that.

Simmons continued, “Lund believes anyone can become a family and wishes to support and promote all families. The All Children – All Families assisted Lund with identifying issues that needed to be resolved and gave training to all members of the Lund team. It was a pleasure and amazing learning experience for all members of the Lund community.”

Congratulations and thank you to Lund Family Center for its continued work welcoming and affirming LGBT individuals, parents, and families.

Over 60 agencies across the country are currently participating in All Children – All Families. Know of a welcoming agency? Let us know.
