WP: Census Bureau Releases Guidelines for Same-Sex Couple Data

According to the Washington Post, after their meeting with HRC and Task Force staff last week, Census Bureau officials have released guidelines describing how they will process Census 2010 responses by married same-sex couples, as well as an opinion by the General Counsel of the Department of Commerce on why the Defense of Marriage Act does not preclude collecting and releasing data on those couples.

The Episcopal Church Diocese in Los Angeles and Minnesota are making history by nominating openly gay and lesbian priests as bishops within their Diocese. The Diocese of Los Angeles, which represents 70,000 Episcopalians in six counties, nominated six priests for the position of assistant bishop. Of these six two candidates, the Rev. John L. Kirkley of San Francisco and the Rev. Canon Mary Douglas Glasspool of Baltimore are openly gay and lesbian respectively.

Passing along this great news from our friends at Fair Wisconsin: Caring, committed couples throughout the state of Wisconsin will have access to some basic legal protections today as the state’s new domestic partnership law takes effect. Today Wisconsin becomes the first state in nation with an existing ban on both marriage equality and civil unions to enact domestic partnerships, and first state in Midwest to legislatively enact protections for same-sex couples. "Today is a historic day for fairness in Wisconsin,” says Fair Wisconsin Executive Director Katie Belanger.
