In what might have been the least hostile community meeting of this summer’s Congressional recess, Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA 12) paid a visit to the San Francisco LGBT Community Center on Monday, August 31. Members of HRC’s San Francisco Steering Committee and Board of Governors joined representatives from other organizations for an hour-plus discussion of the issues of greatest import to our community.

Last weekend, HRC’s Orange County/Long Beach/Palm Springs volunteer Steering Committee put on a Garden Party in Newport Coast, CA. HRC board member Sandra Hartness from Laguna Beach and a team of over a dozen volunteers worked their magic once again in putting on a fabulous event that not only entertained the guests, but inspired them to take action.

A quick update on the possibility that domestic partnerships in Washington State will be put to voters in November to approve or reject... Yesterday the Secretary of State completed counting and officially certified the results of their count saying they found 122,007 valid signatures which is 1,430 more than the bare minimum required to put it on the ballot.
