Changing the Course of History: Best of 2012

Advocating for All Families

In 2012, HRC worked to create safer and more welcoming environments for all LGBT families. In every corner of our nation, there are loving, committed same-sex couples making their lives together, many of them currently raising children or hoping to do so one day. Thanks to programs such as HRC’s All Children-All Families, more and more of these couples are able to open their homes through foster care and adoption. HRC is also working to reverse discriminatory laws at the federal and state level to ensure that families are treated equally.

  • This spring, HRC’s All Children-All Families initiative announced a new partnership with RaiseAChild.US, a nonprofit with the mission to promote and encourage the LGBT community to build families of their own through fostering and adoption. The pilot project would produce recruitment events and media campaigns in major cities across the country.
  • In April, HRC released a brief outlining some of the major issues LGBT families face in America, including lack of legal protections and discriminatory laws and federal policies, which served as an overview in advance of the White House LGBT Conference on Families in Minneapolis.
