Who We Are
The Center for the Study of Equality, the nonprofit, nonpartisan research center of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, advances the understanding and acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people through independent scholarship, policy analysis, and shared knowledge. The Center is founded on the principles that sexual and gender prejudice is rooted in a false and harmful mythology and that education is the foundation to ending discrimination.
What We Do
-
Library of public opinion:
In partnership with Hunter College, the Center is assembling the nation’s only collection of public and proprietary opinion research about GLBT people. When launched in 2008 the library will make available more than 30 years of research to scholars and human rights advocates.
-
Annual research review:
Also in 2008 the Center will publish the first annual compilation of the year’s opinion and policy research about GLBT people.
-
Research Fellowships, Internships, and student grants:
The Center has a strong commitment to the development and support of the next generation of thought leaders. The Center awards grants to graduate students in GLBT political studies as well as conducts year-round Fellow and Internship programs.
-
Studies in communities of color:
A fundamental part of HRC’s Equality Forward initiative, the Center is directing groundbreaking research into the lives of African American, Latino, and Asian Pacific Island GLBT people.
