HRC Pride & Community Events Intern
The Pride & Community Events Intern will work with Membership & Community Event Managers and the Membership & Community Event Coordinator in helping to manage and guide the work of HRC in over 85 pride events around the country. This Intern will be vital in helping to update records for pride events, setting up and participating in conference calls with Steering Committee members and coordinating logistics involving staff participation in prides. Participation in local DC Pride events is required. Other duties will include assisting in the planning and advertising of various community events, along with shipping and other administrative tasks as needed. The Pride Intern will work very closely with the Membership Outreach Temp, as they are both housed under the Membership & Community Events team within the Membership Department at HRC.
Responsibilities:
The Pride & Community Events Intern will have important responsibilities from the beginning of their internship, as well as miscellaneous assignments as they are needed.
- Assisting in travel arrangements for all HRC Pride events. Travel arrangements will encompass searching for and booking flights, rental cars, and hotels, and coordinating per diem checks
- Assisting and participating in the registration process for all Pride events, including the coordination of booths, tents, tables, chairs, and obtaining insurance certificates
- Assisting in the coordination of Pride shipments with fulfillment house
- Entering post-pride information, including membership results, merchandise results, and political action piece sign-ups into the Pride database
- Shipment of materials to pride events and responsible volunteers
- Proactively working with managers to include information on upcoming community events on HRC’s online blog
- Staffing HRC’s booth at Washington DC Capital Pride and other events as needed
- Assisting Membership & Community Events Coordinator with community events planning nationwide
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Professional & responsible manner
- Past events management or volunteer management a plus
- Basic proficiency in or willingness to work with Microsoft Word & Excel with the ability to become adept at the use of these and other computer programs
- Demonstrated interest in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues
Outcomes:
- Intern will gain project and event management skills through work on various community and pride events
- Intern will gain increased understanding of HRC’s place and involvement within LGBT movement
- Intern will work and gain experience working with many dedicated, high-level volunteers throughout the country
- Intern may have the opportunity to lobby on Capital Hill on behalf of LGBT issues such as the passpassage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and Hate Crimes legislation
- Intern will gain membership recruitment skills
Other:
- This internship will be compensated via class credit or a stipend. Dates may be flexible by 1- 3 weeks, depending on the needs of the department or the applicant
