Position Summary
The Youth Outreach Coordinator is a regular, full-time position who reports to the Senior Youth Outreach Manager and is based in Washington, D.C.
The Youth Outreach Coordinator works with the HRC Foundation Team to advance the work and mission of HRC through GLBT and allied youth with a focus on campus organizations. The YOC will coordinate the work of the Youth Outreach and PEOD teams with that of all other departments in the areas of youth organization and development. The YOC will also work to build infrastructure for GLBT and allied campus groups through various mediums, including the HRC webpage.
Position Responsibilities:
Increase awareness of HRC opportunities, resources and membership among GLBT and Allied youth.
o Identify and grow GLBT campus and statewide GLBT student groups in targeted areas.
o Develop infrastructure/system to capture, maintain, and share contact information of campus GLBT and allied student groups.
o Coordinate yearly youth summit leadership conference and training for GLBT and allied college students
o Educate and mobilize GLBT and allied youth to vote and take grassroots action in targeted states and districts when appropriate
o Travel may be necessary
Work closely with Online Strategy, Communications Team and Web Team to bolster usage and effectiveness of social networking sites.
Produce content and maintain distribution of Generation EQ newsletter.
Oversee the Youth & Campus section of the HRC website; maintains fresh, unique content that keeps users coming back and attracts new users
Maintain the Campus Inbox and fulfills all publication requests
Coordinate special programmatic, technical and administrative projects on behalf of and under the guidance of the Senior Youth & Campus Outreach Manager (and other programmatic staff).
Represent the Youth & Campus Outreach team on designated intra/interdepartmental projects and committees. Serve as liaison to Operations Division staff for routine administrative processes.
Liaise with Development and Membership Division staff to provide required programmatic information for fundraising purposes.
Coordinates meetings with internal and external stakeholders
Creates and/or gives presentations to various audiences
Assumes responsibility for the timely resolution of inquiries, information requests, etc. from HRC board members and senior staff
Recruits and manages Youth & Campus Outreach interns
Coordinates with PEOD Coordinator to communicate Youth & Campus Outreach programmatic successes to internal and external stakeholders through various division- or organization-wide publications, newsletters, etc.
Assists the Senior Youth & Campus Outreach Manager and Outreach in tracking and managing current fiscal year budgets, developing new budgets
Other duties as required
Position Qualifications
The successful candidate for this position must be able to balance administrative, programmatic and management functions and work individually, within the Division and cross-organizationally to maximize the effectiveness of Youth and Campus Outreach program work. Additional qualifications include:
Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
Two years of work experience in a professional environment, focus on youth and campus issues a plus
Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is required
Demonstrated knowledge of GLBT issues
Experience with social networking and basic HTML
Ability to work independently and in teams in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, possibly including public speaking
All positions at the Human Rights Campaign and/or the Human Rights Campaign Foundation may require travel on a regular basis or periodically. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
