HRC Gala Events Team Internship

The HRC Gala Events Team produces over 25 celebrity-driven fundraising events each year. Featuring Hollywood and Broadway entertainers as well as national, state and local political figures, HRC’s Gala Dinner events are the primary mechanism for attracting new HRC members, supporters and volunteers, as well as raising funds to support the work of HRC.  Interns in the program assist events managers with administrative tasks and are included in weekly team planning meetings. Interns will also have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience with stage and video production, scripting, advertising and the behind the scenes aspect of event management, which includes everything from searching for GLBT-friendly celebrities in the news to assisting with local events to tracking income from each dinner. Spring, Summer and Fall interns also assist with HRC’s premier event, the National Dinner in Washington, D.C., which usually features some of the biggest names in entertainment and politics. The position is perfectly suited for someone who would like to experience the creative side of community service.

Responsibilities
The Gala Events Team Intern will have important ongoing projects assigned to them at the start of the internship, as well as many other day to day responsibilities.

  • Maintaining and updating various databases including Silent Auction Databases and the Speaker Database.
  • Recording and tracking dinner income.
  • Work closely with Events Operation Manager to organize and provide supporting documentation for weekly team meeting.
  • Assisting the event managers with administrative duties and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Professional & responsible manner with HRC Staff and volunteers.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel with the ability to become adept at the use of these and other computer programs, including Microsoft Access.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize many projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team and give input on both logistical and creative sides of event planning.
  • Demonstrated interest in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.

Outcomes

  • Interns will gain experience in all aspects of producing and promoting gala events.
  • Interns will gain a better understanding of fundraising and donor stewardship.
  • Interns will gain knowledge of budgeting events and tracking revenue and expense performance.
  • Interns will gain administrative experience applicable to entry-level positions.

  • This is a paid internship -- Part time (20 hrs, $131.25 /week) or Full Time (40 hrs, $262.50 / week)
  • All of our internships are based out of our offices in Washington, D.C. We cannot provide housing for our interns
