HRC Family Project Internship

The HRC Family Project helps LGBT families navigate complicated issues such as adoption, parenting, healthcare and financial and legal planning. Recently, the project has been focused on increasing awareness of LGBT family issues in hospitals and adoption agencies, and providing resources on family diversity to elementary school teachers. The HRC Family Project is part of HRC’s Public Education and Outreach Division which manages much of the organization’s non-political work. We are currently seeking an intern to assist the HRC Family Project staff.

Responsibilities:

The HRC Family Project Intern's responsibilities include:

  • Maintain database records and file copies of responses to surveys from hospitals and adoption agencies.
  • Provide logistical support for project meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain lists of activities and accomplishments of the Family Project for use in periodic reports to the staff and board of directors
  • Help to connect project staff with counterparts in other HRC departments to ensure collaboration
  • Work independently to complete various projects as assigned.
  • Provide administrative support for the Director of the HRC Family Project including research, drafting correspondence, scheduling meetings, sending publications, arranging travel, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in or graduation from an accredited college or university
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or interest in LGBT issues is required; demonstrated knowledge of and/or interest in the issues that face LGBT parents and their children and/or LGBT youth is a big plus
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment is required
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills are required

  • Familiarization with the HRC Family Project
  • Ability to coordinate a multi-faceted program in a non-profit organization
  • Expanded understanding of the education programs and the grassroots organizing of the HRC Foundation.
  • Administrative skills essential to any entry-level position
  • Fine-tuned writing skills.

  • This is an unpaid internship. Credit is available upon request.
