On Tax Day, the final day of our “7 Days to a Better Financial You” campaign, HRC’s Religion and Faith Program Director Harry Knox led a team of Atlanta faith and religious leaders in calling attention to the moral imperative of enacting tax laws that are fair to the GLBT families.
Overall, we had a tremendous response to “7 Days.” In order to capitalize on the interest, we asked our members to take action by sending a message to Congress demanding the passage of "Family Matters" legislation – to give same-sex families the rights and benefits that most people take for granted.

Across the country, millions of same-sex couples face significant financial burdens and legal hurdles in building a secure future for their families. As a result of the Defense of Marriage Act, which prevents the federal government from recognizing legal same-sex marriages, these couples are denied access to the more than 1,100 federal benefits and protections available to married couples. We hope the information provided during the “7 Days to a Better Financial You” will be informative in helping you think about your financial future and plan for your and your family's long-term financial success.
